The Safety Sleeper®
Which Safety Sleeper Model Is Right for You?

When families first explore The Safety Sleeper, one common assumption is that our models work like car trim levels — a "good, better, best" hierarchy where higher numbers mean "safer" or "more premium."

That is a myth.

The Safety Sleeper — whether it’s the 200, 300, or 400 Model — is built with the exact same uncompromised foundation of safety, durability, and peace of mind. Every model includes:

  • 100% Entrapment-Free Design: Enclosed zip-in coverlet safety sheets that eliminate gaps between the mattress and enclosure.
  • Built for Home & Travel: Lightweight yet durable, free-standing aluminum frame, removable padded enclosure, included air and memory foam mattresses, and a custom wheeled hardshell suitcase for transport.
  • Protection & Security: Outer-only zipper closures, full set of 4 frame pads, stabilizing straps, and medical-grade, machine-washable fabric.
  • Model 200 Standard Medical & Comfort Features: 8" memory foam mattress & 2 zip-in coverlet sheets.
  • Models 300 & 400 Standard: 8" memory foam mattress, 2 zip-in waterproof coverlet sheets, and dual tubing access ports for medical devices. Waterproof coverlets and tubing ports can be added to the 200 Model.

So, Why Are There Different Models?

Because while every child deserves the highest standard of safety, every child’s physical care routine is unique. Choosing the right Safety Sleeper isn’t about upgrading safety — it’s about matching the bed’s entry and access points to your loved one’s transfer requirements and medical setup.

Matching the Bed to Your Daily Routine

1. The 200 Model: The Safety Sleeper Special Needs Bed

  • Who it’s for: Individuals who enter bed independently or with minimal side-transfer assistance.
  • How it works: The 200 Model features a large Single Side Entry door. It is our classic, most popular configuration for families who need to eliminate nighttime wandering or elopement while providing a comfortable, calming sensory environment.
  • Works with most existing bed frames and includes an 8" foam mattress. This model comes with one side entry but can be customized with additional features, such as the end-of-bed entry and upgraded coverlet sheets.
  • Best choice if: Your room layout allows standard side access and your care plan doesn't require mechanical lift equipment.

2. The 300 Model: The Safety Sleeper Canopy Bed

  • Who it’s for: Families with specific bedroom spatial constraints or individuals who benefit from head-of-bed or end-of-bed entry points.
  • How it works: Unlike the 200, the 300 Model features End-of-Bed Entry along with removable vinyl and mesh panels. This allows caregivers to access their loved one directly from the end of the bed without needing clear clearance along the side walls.
  • It also includes a memory foam mattress, 2 waterproof coverlets, and a video monitoring panel.
  • Best choice if: The bed must fit in a tight room where side access is blocked, or if you prefer medical observation from the end of the bed.

3. The 400 Model: The Safety Sleeper Lift-Compatible Bed

  • Who it’s for: Individuals with higher physical support requirements, mobility challenges, or those requiring mechanical transfer assistance.
  • How it works: Built specifically for complex medical care, the 400 Model features a Convertible Entry System that opens from both sides or the center. The entire top canopy section unzips to accommodate Hoyer lifts, ceiling track lifts, and multi-caregiver transfers without obstruction.
  • It also includes a memory foam mattress, waterproof coverlet, and video monitoring windows.
  • Best choice if: You use a mechanical lift, perform daily ergonomic transfers, or need maximum open access to administer medical care while in bed.

In Short...

Every model shares the same core promise: a fully enclosed, entrapment-free space built for safe sleep at home and on the go. The difference is in how it fits your loved one's care needs.

  • 200 Model: The original and most versatile option. It is designed to work with most existing frames. It has one side entry and can be customized with additional features, such as the end-of-bed entry or upgraded coverlet sheets.
  • 300 Model: Adds more access and flexibility. It includes side entry plus an end-of-bed entry with removable vinyl and mesh panels, making it easier to access the user from different locations.
  • 400 Model: Offers the most flexibility for access and transfers. It includes a convertible entry, lift compatibility, and access points on both sides, along with the same core safety and comfort features.

Model 200 = Original and versatile
Model 300 = More access options
Model 400 = Most access and transfer flexibility

All three models include the core TSS features such as the frame pads, 8" waterproof memory foam mattress, stabilizing straps, travel air mattress, and wheeled suitcase.

Still Not Sure Which Is Right for Your Family?

How to Decide: Ask Yourself These 3 Questions

  1. How does your loved one get in and out of bed?

    • Walks or crawls in with minimal assistance? 200 Model
    • Needs transfers from the end of the bed due to room layout? 300 Model
    • Requires a Hoyer lift, ceiling lift, or two-person transfer? 400 Model
  2. Where will the bed sit in the bedroom?

If you have open space on the long side of the mattress, the 200 Model is ideal. If the bed is tucked into a spot where side entry is restricted, the 300 Model offers full end-entry functionality.

  3. What accessories or add-ons do you need?

Every model accommodates essential add-ons — such as video monitoring windows, access points, or waterproof upgrades. Accessories don't dictate your model; your transfer and medical requirements do.
